is the online home of the Potters at Strawbery Banke, a traditional pottery
in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Artists Maureen Mills and Steven Zoldak are recognized
throughout the East Coast and much of the nation for their creative ceramic
art and unique, creative and functional stoneware. Developing an Internet strategy
for a company whose market is primarily handled through face to face interaction
at shops and art shows is more difficult than it may sound. Hand crafted artwork
and functional art is difficult to experience over the Internet and a large
part of the beauty and value of the work is in being able to connect the hand
crafted art to the hands that crafted it. The art shows are very good at this
connection and attending these shows is a time consuming, but effective way
to let the public connect the art with the artist and appreciate the work whether
it is a hand carved ceramic vase or a unique, hand thrown place setting.
Sliptrail.com is an e-commerce site in that the pottery catalog is available
online, but as important if not more important is the educational, technical
and community information that is available through the site in order to strengthen
the connection and put the work in perspective.
Webfarm is developing the next education application for Sliptrail.com so that
series of step-by-step guides can be available to teach the concepts of ceramic
art by the masters at the Mills-Zoldak Potters at Strawbery Banke.
